Students, faculty and staff can use Filelocker to share publicly accessible files.

Filelocker's public sharing tool enables users to (1) share files with individuals who do not have a NetID and password, and (2) designate these files for single or multiple use. The process below creates a publicly accessible URL for the file.

For more information about sharing files with individuals who do have a NetID and password, review the following articles:

To share public files,

  1. Log in to Filelocker with your NetID and password. You will then be directed to the My Files page.

  5. Complete the following:
    1. Enter an expiration date (i.e., the last date on which a recipient can view the file) for the file.

Use the format mm/dd/yyyy for the expiration date.

If you do not have a specific date in mind, you can use the expiration date that automatically populates the field.
    2. Enter the email addresses of any individuals you wish to notify about the file share.
    3. Enter a message or any relevant notes you wish to include for the recipient(s).

Do not use this field to identify passwords for encrypted files. You should communicate password information to your recipients by phone.

    4. Select checkboxes for the following options, as needed:
      1. Allow multiple downloads (requires password)?
        • You should select this option if you plan to permit recipients to upload the file multiple times.
        • If you leave this checkbox blank, the public share will generate a publicly accessible, single-use URL for sharing the file once. This single-use URL does not require a password.
        • Allowing multiple downloads will require a password.
      2. CC me with notification?
        • Select this option if you would like to receive a copy of the share notification.
      3. Password protect this public share?
        • Select this option if you would like to password protect a single use, publicly shared URL.
        • Single-use URLS do not require a password otherwise.
  6. Click on the Share button. You will be redirected back to the Uploaded Files screen, and a small globe symbol will appear with the small icon next to the file you shared publicly.
