The UCONN-SECURE network connects the UConn community with authenticated and encrypted access to the UConn wireless network.  It provides users with full and secure access to university and internet resources. 

Connecting to UConn-Secure requires an activated NetID and password. 

  1. Open the App Tray.
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Select Wi-Fi.
  4. Select UCONN-SECURE.
  5. Leave the default settings as-is.  Enter your NetID in the "Identity" section.  Enter your NetID password in "Password" section.

  6. Press Connect.

    On Android 7.0, the CA certificate should be set to “do not validate”.

  7. Your device will obtain an IP address and connect successfully.

Connecting to the Uconn-Secure Wireless Network on Chromebook

  1. Under initial setup you will be asked to Select a Network.
  2. Choose “Other Wi-Fi network…”
  3. Select Advanced
  4. Enter the following credentials:


    EAP Method: PEAP

    Phase 2 Authentication: Automatic

    Server Certificate: do not check

    Identity: NetID

    Password: NetID Password

    Anonymous identity: leave blank

  5. Click Connect.

Managing Wireless Networks

Adding UCONN-SECURE as another network

  1. Click the network icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your computer's screen.
  2. Click Join Other.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Enter the following credentials for UCONN-SECURE:


    EAP Method: PEAP

    Phase 2 Authentication: Automatic

    Server Certificate: do not check

    Identity: NetID

    Password: NetID Password

    Anonymous identity: leave blank

  5. Make sure Save identify and password and Share this network with other users are checked off.
  6. Click Connect.

Removing Networks

  1. Click the network icon in the bottom right-hand corner.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Wi-Fi network.
  4. Click Preferred Networks.
  5. Click next to the network(s) you wish to remove.
  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Turn Wi-Fi on by clicking the toggle switch.
  4. The computer will search for networks and then show a list of available networks.  Select UCONN-SECURE.
  5. Enter your NetID and your password and click Join.
  6. UCONN-SECURE’s security certificate will appear.  Click Accept to continue.  It will say Not Verified but that’s alright.
  7. The Accept button will disappear and it will say Joining UCONN-SECURE…at the top.  This may take a short while so be patient. It should then return you to the Wi-Fi networks screen and you will be connected to UCONN-SECURE.
  1. Open Network Preferences by clicking the network button on the right side of the top menu.
  2. Click Turn Wi-Fi On.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Click "+" to add a new network. A window will slide down. Fill in the following information and hit OK.
    • Network Name: UCONN-SECURE
    • Security: WPA2 Enterprise
    • Mode: Automatic
    • Username: NetID
    • Password: NetID password
  5. UCONN-SECURE will have been added to the network list. Click OK. Click Apply and then click Turn Wi-Fi On.
  6. UCONN-SECURE will authenticate and connect to the internet.
  1. To ensure that wireless is turned on, click on the Dash Home icon.
  2. Type network and press enter to open network window.

  3. Click on Wireless tab.
  4. Ensure the switch is set to ON for wireless.

  5. Close the window to return to the desktop.
  6. Click on the wireless icon (located on the top-right corner).
  7. Select UCONN-SECURE.
  8. Enter your NetID and password. Settings should auto-populate.

    • If the settings do not auto-populate, use the following:
    • Security = WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
    • Authentication method = Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • CA certificate = No CA certificate is required
    • PEAP version = Automatic
    • Inner authentication = MSCHAPv2
    • Username = NetID
    • Password = NetID password
    •  UCONN Secure connection settings.
  9. Click Connect.
  10. Select the check mark in the Don’t warn me again box.
  11. Click Ignore button.
  12. You should see a window stating, “UCONN-SECURE, Connection Established”.

Connecting to the UConn-Secure Wireless Network on a Windows 8 Phone

  1. Go to home screen by pressing the middle button (the windows logo button) and then swipe left on the home screen to get to the App Menu.
  2. Scroll down until you reach Settings.
  3. Once "Settings" is selected make sure you are in the System portion of settings. Within that tab, scroll down and select Wi-Fi.
  4. Inside the Wi-Fi settings page, make sure that the Wi-Fi is on and then select UCONN-SECURE.
  5. After selecting UCONN-SECURE, on the SIGN IN page enter your NetID in the User name text box and you NetID password in the Password text box. Once the credentials are entered, click the Done button to connect.
  6. If you successfully connected, you should be brought back to the WiFi page and under UCONN-SECURE it will say "connected".

Connecting to the UConn-Secure Wireless Network on a Windows 7 Phone

  1. From the Home screen, slide to the right to the Apps window.
  2. Scroll down and select Settings.
  3. Under System, scroll down if necessary and select Wi-Fi.
  4. Ensure Wi-Fi is active by moving the slider, then select UCONN-SECURE.
  5. Enter NetID and password. Press Done when complete.
  6. The phone will indicate a successful connection to UCONN-SECURE.
  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Network & Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Select Set up a connection or network.
  3. Select Manualy connect to a wireless network, then click Next.
  4. Select Set up a connection or network. Fill out the fields as listed below, then click Next:

    Network name: UCONN-SECURE
    Security type: WPA2-Enterprise.
    Encryption type: AES
    Start this connection automatically: Checked

  5. Double-click Change connection settings.
  6. The UCONN-SECURE Wireless Network properties window will open. On the "Connection" tab, do the following:

    Check Connect automatically when this network is in range.
    Uncheck Connect to a more preferred network if available.
    Uncheck Connect even if network is not broadcasting.
    Check Enable WLAN connection settings.

  7.  Click the Security tab, then click Settings.
  8. The "Proteced EAP propterties" window will open. Within this window, select the following then click Configure:

    Check Validate server certificate
    Trusted Root Certification Authorities: Select USerTrust RSA Certification Authority, AddTrust-External
    Authentication Method: Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
    Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)

  9. Click OK through the next windows.
  10. Click on the balloon that appears near the system tray that says, "Additional information is required to connect to UCONN-SECURE."
  11. Enter the following into the pop-up window, then click OK:

    User Name: NetID
    Password: NetID Password

  1. Click on the wifi symbol on the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Select Network and Internet Settings.
  3. Click Network and Sharing Center at the bottom of the pop-up window.
  4. Click Set up a new connection or network.
  5. Click Manually connect to a wireless network, then Next.
  6. Type in the following information, then click Next:

    Network name: UCONN-SECURE
    Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption type: AES
    Security Key: (blank)
    Start this connection automatically (selected)

  7. Click on the wifi symbol in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
  8. Click on UCONN-SECURE, then click Connect.
  9. You will be asked to log in. Use your NetID as the username and your NetID password as the password.
