Students pursuing a Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree can request prior course approval through the Student Administration System.

BGS students who plan to enroll in courses at another institution are required to complete the BGS Prior Course Approval form. You should consult with your BGS Advisor for assistance in course selection.

NOTE: Transfer credit policies prohibit the award of transfer credit for laboratory sciences or foreign languages taught online.
  9. Enter the Course Title as it appears in that school's undergraduate catalog.
  10. When your request is complete, click the Save and send email button.
  11. Repeat the steps above for any additional class requests.
  12. An email will be generated and sent to the Bachelor of General Studies Office. Once your request is processed, you will be notified via your UConn email account. Your advisor will also receive an email. Prior course approval requests take approximately 10 business days to process. Questions regarding how the transfer credit will eventually be applied towards specific degree requirements should be addressed directly with your academic advisor.

After receiving notification, log in to the Student Administration System to Access your Prior Course Approval results. To do so,

  1. Click the Manage Classes tile on the Homepage.
    Manage Classes Tile
  2. Click the Prior Course Approval tab to the far left of the screen.
    Prior Course Approval tab
  3. The Prior Course Approval results display.
  4. If you made multiple requests, scroll through the results of each request by clicking the arrow buttons to the right of the blue bar.

Courses not equivalent to a specific UConn course but still transferable are given a 5-digit generic designation beginning with the number 9.

Once you have completed the approved course and met the basic requirements for eligibility of transfer credit, you must request that an official transcript be sent directly to your BGS office.
